N100k Per Week: NCDC Pays Ebola Contacts in Abuja

Director of the Nigerian Center for Disease control (NCDC) Dr Jide Idris has declared that said the center is paying all contacts under quarantine N100K (75 USD) per week for their welfare. This development came after days of appeal by the said individuals who requested for money to support their families as they couldn’t work while under quarantine.

He warned that he NCDC would be only able to cater to the needs of contacts in Abuja. State governments should be prepared to manage the welfare of cases and contacts within their jurisdictions.

Speaking at a media briefing today, Dr Idris announced 9 additional contacts being monitored for Ebola. He said that contact tracing is ongoing to all individuals who were possibly exposed to the virus. The contacts will be monitored for 21 days according to Ebola safety protocols.

He said, “we have only one case, but we have 53 contacts linked to this index case.” He added that these primary contacts have been categorized.

He noted that there was a suspected case in Rivers State. However, the individual tested negative.

Concluding his speech, he warned against the spread of misinformation on Ebola.
